From 3 to 14 June 2024, ASOCIACION “ACRENAP” attended the UNFCCC – SB60 conference and took an active part in it.
At the United Nations (UN) Climate Change Press Conference, SB 60 (Bonn, Germany), the international representative of the Association for the Development and Conservation of Natural Resources of Peru (ACRENAP) Uwe Lenfeld said that during 2023, based on the studies conducted, additional CO2 emission factors will be determined. The total figure at the national level in Peru reaches 222,284 megatons of CO2 emissions per year.
This indicator was determined after studying factors that had not previously been measured or taken into account in full in order to obtain an indicator closer to the real one. At the moment, the energy, transport, industrial and agricultural sectors have been taken into account.
However, Acrenap suggests considering seven additional points to determine emissions more precisely. A variable that is not taken into account by emission calculation studies worldwide is the amount of CO2 released by human pulmonary respiration during exhalation. In addition, the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), often used in Peru for heating or cooking, is also considered an important source of CO2. As a third factor, using firewood or burning wood to create a fire is an extremely common practice in our country.
On the other hand, other sources of CO2 considered by CARNAP were river, air and land transport (all types of vehicles are taken into account). Then, as the last factor to be taken into account, primary deforestation and loss of vegetation cover should be taken into account.
