A review of bark beetles of the genus Sampsonius Eggers, 1935 (Coleoptera: Curculionidae: Scolytinae) from Peru
Mycetophages are very widely represented in the Scolytinae subfamily.
This trophic group often includes beetles with morphological and behavioral features
that allow them to penetrate into plant tissues and bring in the fungal flora necessary for feeding larvae.
Mycetophages reach their maximum species diversity in tropical areas.
The parental passages in the xylem are peculiar forms for growing mycelium of fungi,
the females in such galleries maintain a certain microclimate.
