UNESCO has recognized AVIRERI VRAEM as the seventh biosphere Reserve of Peru

Today, September 15, AT THE 33RD SESSION OF THE INTERNATIONAL COORDINATING COUNCIL FOR THE MAN AND THE BIOSPHERE PROGRAM OF THE IAB-UNESCO

The new AVIRERI VRAEM Biosphere Reserve has been approved, which will become the 7th in a row in Peru.

President of the CONSORCIO RESERVA DE BIÓSFERA AVIRERI VRAEM, ASOCIACIÓN “ACRENAP” Dr. Vladimir Izersky and the Chairman of the Coordination Center of the IAB-UNESCO Commission in Peru, Dr. Pedro Gamboa Moquillas. We took part as official guests in this event.

RB AVIRERI VRAEM is the most important nature reserve in America for its biodiversity. There are 16 habitat zones out of 36 zones around the world on its territory, the area of the biosphere reserve is 4,110,762.00 hectares.

AVIRERI VRAEM consists of 9 districts of the Satipo Junin province and 7 districts of the La Convention Cusco province.

This provides an opportunity to stimulate the conservation and restoration of natural resources for the sustainable development of indigenous peoples and rural communities in this part of the Peruvian Amazon.
